Influence of turbulence intensity on vortex pattern for a rigid cylinder with turbulence stimulation in flow induced oscillations
نویسندگان
چکیده
The effect of ambient turbulence intensity on the flow induced oscillations rigid circular cylinders with symmetric and asymmetric local stimulation is studied. Cylinders oscillate in one degree freedom transversely to a steady uniform flow. Two-dimensional unsteady Reynolds-Average Navier-Stokes equations Spalart-Allmaras model are used solve problem numerically. Three freestream values (0.2%, 1%, 5%) study influence vortex pattern. Simulation results compared experimental data measured Marine Renewable Energy Laboratory University Michigan range 30,000 ≤ Re 110,000. amplitude ratio, lift coefficient, modes, interactions between vortices observed discussed. Major conclusions are: (a) Vortex patterns strongly depend intensity. (b) Low can generate multi-vortex at high Re. (c) High fewer separations shed into multiple inducing emergence elongated patterns.

Influence of Turbulence on Ultrasonic Flow Measurements
The Ultrasonic transit time method is well established to measure the volumetric flow rates of liquids and gases. In most applications the measured flows are turbulent. The ultrasonic measurement technique has advanced to a level of accuracy where the turbulence of the measured media is the main source of fluctuations in the measured flow value. Experiments on flowmeters with different diameter...
متن کاملInternal combustion engines in cylinder flow simulation improvement using nonlinear k-ε turbulence models
The purpose of this paper is to studying nonlinear k-ε turbulence models and its advantages in internal combustion engines, since the standard k-ε model is incapable of representing the anisotropy of turbulence intensities and fails to express the Reynolds stresses adequately in rotating flows. Therefore, this model is not only incapable of expressing the anisotropy of turbulence in an engine c...

متن کاملAnalysis of Pseudo-Turbulence Flow Induced by Bubble Periodic Formation in Non-Newtonian Fluids
Laser Doppler Velocimetry (LDV) has been employed to determine pseudo-turbulence characteristics of the flow field around bubble train forming in non-Newtonian caboxymethylcellulose (CMC) aqueous solution at low gas flow rate condition. The Reynolds stress and turbulent intensity of the liquid were investigated by means of Reynolds time-averaged method. The experimental results show that ax...
متن کاملEffect Of Turbulence Intensity On Vortex Formation Threshold In A Jet Engine Test Cell
Vortical structures can develop in the intakes of aircraft engines during operation in the proximity of solid surfaces. Take-off and testing in a ground facility are clear examples of such scenarios. When such a vortex is formed and ingested into the engine, potentially catastrophic damage can occur. The vortex can cause the compressor to stall, resulting in severe damage to the engine. Procedu...
